KODY Davies will be going back to the drawing board with trainer Gavin Rees after losing his British super-middleweight title eliminator to Umar Sadiq, the first defeat of the Gwent fighter’s professional career.

Sadiq claimed a unanimous points victory at York Hall, with the ringside judges scoring the 10-round contest 98-92, 97-93 and 96-94 in the Londoner’s favour.

Sadiq is now the mandatory challenger to reigning British champion Lerrone Richards.

For Pontllanfraith’s Davies (10-1), his future would appear to be back at light-heavyweight.

Speaking before Saturday night’s bout, Davies said making the super-middleweight limit hadn’t been a problem.

But in a post on social media after the loss, he wrote: “I guess the super-middleweight division is a push too far.

“Thank you everyone for the amazing support.

“Credit and respect to Sadiq and his team. Best wishes for your future.”
