THE Welsh Rugby Union announced on Saturday that all rugby is postponed until at least the end of the month because of the coronavirus outbreak.
Gwent clubs, who have been banned from training, are now waiting for the announcement about the implications for their fixture list and whether they will be able to complete the season.
Plenty of clubs have titles, promotion or relegation to play for, here is the state of play heading into what was meant to be the closing months of the campaign…
INDIGO GROUP PREMIERSHIP
Cardiff are looking good to take the title as Steve Law's side have a seven-point lead with six games remaining.
The battle at the bottom has long been between Ebbw Vale and Bridgend, with the Steelmen having a good couple of rounds before the suspension.
Ebbw showed fighting spirit for a draw at high-flying Carmarthen Quins and then beat RGC late on, that after the Ravens suffered anguish at the death at the Quins.
Greg Woods' men have an eight-point lead as well as a game in hand over Bridgend, who have just four games to scramble out of the relegation zone.
If the Ravens are to move above Ebbw then they would need to win the clash between the sides at the Brewery Field, which was meant to be played at the end of the month.
Newport have endured a frustratingly stop-start season, although they have happily been well clear of trouble at the bottom.
The Black and Ambers still have seven fixtures left to play and they will be focused on trying to finish in the top six and qualifying for the 2021 competition against the Scottish clubs, with this year's first edition sure to be hit by the virus.
WRU SPECSAVERS CHAMPIONSHIP
The Premiership was approaching the run-in but there was still plenty of rugby to be played a rung down.
Pontypool have a perfect 16 wins from 16 fixtures – but the title isn't yet in the bag.
Bargoed have kept the heat on Pooler to ensure that the leaders, who have won three Championship titles on the spin, have work to do.
Pooler and Bargoed both have 10 games left to play with the former having a five-point advantage.
It was Pontypool that edged the meeting between the sides in December courtesy of a late try for wing Lloyd Lewis.
The Bulls dropped points at Cardiff Met on opening weekend but have kept within striking distance – and have home advantage against Pooler in the fixture that is pencilled in for April 25.
Bedwas sit third in the table and have nine fixtures left while Cross Keys have the same figure of games to fulfil, with relegation no longer a worry.
Morgan Stoddart's side beat Ystalyfera last Saturday - their seventh win in their last 10 - and have a 19-point lead over the teams in the drop zone.
Ystalyfera, Tata Steel, Trebanos and Beddau are currently facing relegation.
DIVISION ONE EAST
Newbridge suffered relegation from the Championship last season but are well placed to bounce back at the first attempt.
The Pigs have won 13 of 14 games with their only 'disappointment' a draw against Brecon in November.
'Bridge have an eight-point lead over Penallta with eight games to play to the Pitmen's seven.
The winners of Division One East enter a play-off system with those from East Central, West Central and West to decide the two teams that will be promoted to the Championship.
If they top the table then Newbridge would take on a rival from One East Central – currently Treorchy but Rhydyfelin and Rumney are in the mix – for promotion.
The bottom three clubs in each Division One will be relegated to Division Two. Risca and Monmouth are yet to win in very testing campaigns while the final spot is occupied by Dowlais, but they are just two points back on Senghenydd with five games in hand.
DIVISION TWO EAST
The top two will be promoted to Division One with Talywain currently top after winning 13 of 15 games.
Abergavenny are 12 points back in second but Ynysddu are on their tails, two points back and with a pair of games in hand.
Up to three clubs can drop down to Three A level with Pill Harriers, Croesyceiliog and Hartridge currently at risk with Cwmbran six ahead of the relegation zone.
DIVISION THREE
Geography plays a part in movement at this level but the top two in Three East A will be promoted to Two East – Usk are runaway leaders with Abercarn, RTB Ebbw Vale and Abertysswg tussling beneath them.
The top two in B will head up to A with Nantyglo and Fleur de Lys looking good, while in C it is Crickhowell and Bettws that are looking strong.
The bottom three in each could be relegated – in A that would be struggling Machen and Deri while Abertillery BG are just a win away from Garndiffaith, Blaina and Tredegar Ironsides.
Blackwood Stars prop up B with St Julian's HSOB and New Panteg in the places above them while in C Malpas and Beaufort are struggling with West Mon having work to do if they are to catch Pontllanfraith and Rogerstone.
CUP COMPETITIONS
Finals day at Principality Stadium in mid-April was within sight for 16 clubs.
The WRU National Cup semi-finals were meant to be at the end of the month with Cardiff taking on Carmarthen Quins and Aberavon facing Merthyr.
The plate semis were supposed to be this weekend with Newbridge facing Glynneath and Penallta locking horns with Rhydyfelin.
Abertysswg face Tumble and Aberaeron meet Fairwater in the last four of the bowl.
The Shield schedule has Holyhead and South Gower facing off along with Rhigos and Cwmhwrach.
