GWENT'S David Harrison has been selected to join England Lions' winter tours as head analyst and coaching assistant, writes Chris Kirwan.

The ex-Glamorgan and England A seamer will head to the United Arab Emirates for four-day, 50-over and T20 games with Pakistan A in November and early December.

The 37-year-old from Panteg, who joined the backroom staff at Sophia Gardens after hanging up his bowling boots in 2011, will then assist the next generation in their clashes with India in January.

"Touring with the Lions programme is going to be a new experience for me," said Harrison. "I did some work with the Lions last summer when they played India A and took a lot from that.

"It's a perfect opportunity to work with some of the best players in the country, pick up some new ideas and to develop my own coaching skills.

"The club has been very supportive and encouraging and I think it's good for Glamorgan that we have a representative on the Lions tour.

"Working with international coaches like Andy Flower, Graham Thorpe and Kevin Shine and experiencing a different high performance environment will and help me develop my skills and allow me to bring some of what I learn back to Wales to help Glamorgan."
