SARDIS Road has been a happy hunting ground for Ebbw Vale in recent seasons and skipper Ronny Kynes sees no reason why they can’t get something from their trip there tomorrow.

The form book would suggest hosts Pontypridd are favourites to win the Principality Premiership East encounter (kick-off 2.30pm) – Justin Burnell’s charges have won five in a row.

Pontypridd moved level on points with Bedwas at the top of the table last weekend thanks to an impressive display against Ian Gardner’s leaders.

Ebbw also won last Saturday, although their display in a 19-14 defeat of Bargoed wasn’t quite as easy on the eye as the Valley Commandos’ in that victory at Bridge Field.

But after back-to-back losses, including a 54-5 hiding by Bedwas, it was always going to be about the result rather than the performance for Kynes’ troops, who are now off the bottom of the division.

“We needed that win,” said the Ebbw captain. “Don’t get me wrong, we won ugly, but it was one of those games we targeted to get back to winning ways.

“People around the club weren’t happy with our performances but you’ve got to put that to the back of your mind and do your job.

“The boys are close as a group and it was nice to get that win and then have a couple of pints together afterwards.

“We’ll look to move on from there and we’ve got a massive game this weekend at Pontypridd, especially after that win they had against Bedwas.

“We’ve obviously enjoyed ourselves at Sardis Road over the last couple of years and I see no reason why we can’t go down there and get something.

“Pontypridd are favourites but we’ll do our best and hopefully come back with something, and anyone can beat anyone in this league.”
