A disappointing performance saw Nelson fail to raise their game against a confident Newport side.

Playing on 3G in perfect weather Nelson started positively enough playing the better football, but without creating any clear cut chances.

An early injury for Mark Trampelli enabled Neil Pope to join the fold and he had Nelson's best chance of the first half, but was adjudged to have been off side before he put the ball in the net.

After 20 minutes Newport seem to get their act together and a couple of slick moves opened up the Nelson's defence and Steven Kerby in goal had no chance with either of their efforts. The half time score stood at 2-0.

The second half got off to the worst possible start for Nelson as only five minutes after the restart Newport scored with a header from a free kick.

Shortly after the goal another injury to Shaun Kilcourse in defence meant a switch round of players, this resulted in confusion on another Newport attack as their centre forward found himself one on one with Kerby, bringing the score to 4-0.

Nelson kept pressing and some good play down the right resulted in Neil Pope finding himself one on one with their keeper and coolly slotted past for 4-1.

For a short period Nelson pressed for another goal but by doing this left them open at the back and it was Newport who added to their tally to make the final score 5-1.
