NELSON Cavaliers won 8-0 against Penrhos in the Taff-Ely and Rhymney Valley Premier League The game started slowly as both sides tried to create chances and the game needed a goal to change the pattern.

Fortunately for Nelson, a long-range Dan Falconer shot took a wicked deflection to wrong foot the home keeper to put them ahead.

The Cavaliers then started to take control and goals came at regular intervals with striker Dan Lewis grabbing a hat trick. Dan Falconer then added his second before the half-time whistle.

Penrhos started the second half brighter and Matthew Farr had to be alert and pulled off a couple of good saves to preserve the clean sheet.

Dan Falconer grabbed his hat trick with a tap in to round off another polished performance. Top scorer Ben Banks came off the bench and was keen to get among the goals. He finished well from a half-cleared corner and grabbed his second from a cross from Joel Davies, which he chested down and perfectly placed beyond the keeper’s reach.

A good performance from the Cavs with some great football in patches and a second clean sheet on the bounce but credit must go to Penrhos who, despite the scoreline, played some nice football and on another day this could have been a much closer game.

The second half started and again was one-way traffic. Nelson were soon trailing 6-0.

This was scant consolation for the team who must now look at themselves and regroup for their next game.
