BOSS Michael Flynn described Saturday’s 2-1 defeat of bogey club Stevenage as a “massive, massive win” for high-flying Newport County AFC in League Two.

On-loan striker Antoine Semenyo came off the bench to snatch the three points with a goal in the eighth minute of second-half stoppage time.

Midfielder Matty Dolan had given the hosts a first-minute lead at Rodney Parade courtesy of a sublime long-range effort, only for Luther Wildin to level just before the interval.

County’s Robbie Willmott was stretchered off after a lengthy pause in play, and in the time added on for the delay, Semenyo found a winning goal with a fierce strike from close-range.

“It is the perfect way to win a game,” said Flynn, whose side stays third in the table. “We scored right at the beginning of the game and right at the death.

“I didn’t think we were quite at our best but to be able to beat a good Stevenage team when you’re not at your best shows how far we’ve come, and how far we can go.

“It’s a massive, massive win and I’m absolutely delighted for the players.

“I thought we started really well, not just the goal, and then for the last 15 minutes of the first half they were the better team.

“They switched the play quite well and, without doing much, just seemed the slightly better team.

“In the second half I thought we were by far the better team without being great.”

He added: “It’s always nice when we score in the last minute because they haven’t got time to come back.”

Flynn said Willmott’s shin injury didn’t appear to be as bad as first feared, while he confirmed that Tyreeq Bakinson suffered a dead leg early in the second period.
