MICHAEL Flynn was delighted to see his Newport County AFC side claim a first League Two victory since November thanks to Jamille Matt's winner against Exeter City at Rodney Parade.

"It's an important three points," said the Exiles boss.

"I'm over the moon because the boys have dug deep.

"They've really worked hard to try and get this and change it to get it right.

"They got their rewards today because without being great in the final third I thought we were the better team and created the most chances."

Fraser Franks missed out with an ankle ligament injury but new loan signing Regan Poole impressed in a three-man defence alongside Mark O'Brien and Mickey Demetriou.

South Wales Argus:

"Regan was brilliant," said Flynn. "I know what he can do, he’s a talent and he’s filled out now, he’s no longer that spotty 16-year-old we sold to Manchester United.

"He didn’t get bullied once and you could see his quality on the ball dropping balls into the strikers.

"He’s been at one of the best clubs in the world and he’s bound to have improved."

County remain 13th in the League Two table but they are now just five points behind seventh-placed Forest Green Rovers ahead of next week's FA Cup trip to Middlesbrough.
