NEWPORT County AFC manager Michael Flynn was beaming after watching his side claim a “very important win” against Carlisle United to get back in the mix for the League Two play-offs.
Ade Azeez scored on his home debut to break the deadlock on 14 minutes and Padraig Amond wrapped up the win midway through the second half before Joe Day saved a late penalty.
“I thought we were brilliant today,” said Flynn.
“In the first half Carlisle created one or two chances, from our mistakes, but they are not a bad team, they play good football.
“So it is a very important win, my first against Carlisle as a manager.”
The three points lifts County up to 12th in the table and they are now only five points below seventh-placed Forest Green Rovers with a game in hand.
“I am always hopeful, but we have got to win a couple of games in a row,” said the Exiles boss. “We have got to back this up now. We’ve got two tough away games – Northampton have hit form and Colchester are tough at home.
“If you offered me three points out of six now, I’d probably take it.”
