NEWPORT County AFC loan star Regan Poole insists he hasn’t given up hope of breaking into the Manchester United first team.

County academy graduate Poole, who swapped Rodney Parade for Old Trafford in 2015, has so far made just one senior appearance for the Premier League giants – in the Europa League against FC Midtjylland in 2016.

The 20-year-old is back with the Exiles on loan until the end of the season and he’s hoping to impress United with his form in League Two and the recent FA Cup clash with Manchester City.

South Wales Argus:

“Apart from my first-team Manchester United debut, the game against Manchester City was the biggest game of my career so far,” Poole told the club's official matchday programme.

"It was good being a Manchester United player against them, I did have a few nudges from various people to cause the upset, but I just tried to get on with my normal game.

“The aim is obviously to get into the first-team again when I return because you do want to play in those types of matches week in, week out.”

Mason Greenwood became the youngest player to appear for United in the Champions League, aged 17 years and 156 days, on Wednesday night.

And fellow teenagers Tahith Chong and Diogo Dalot also came off the bench against Paris Saint Germain.

South Wales Argus:

“Manchester United are a great club and I’m privileged to be a part of that,” said Poole.

“It’s been unbelievable and I’ve loved every single minute of being there.

“I’m happy with how it’s going, I’ve captained the under-23s side on a number of occasions.

"But the main aim is still to break into the first-team and stay there.

“I knew before I went there that the pathway was to produce young players and I know that’s still the aim now.

“That is great for young players to see and it does give you belief that one day it could be you becoming the next academy product in the first-team.

“Hopefully I can continue doing well here and then something good will come at the end of it.”
