NEWPORT County AFC defender Ryan Inniss will meet with manager Michael Flynn and club officials and directors today to discuss his response to an FA charge for violent conduct.

Inniss was charged on Friday following an alleged biting offence against West Ham United under-21s player Reece Hannam in last Wednesday’s Leasing.com Trophy defeat.

The red card means he will serve a three-match ban but if he’s found guilty of biting that could be increased significantly.

The FA said: “It is alleged that his behaviour in or around the 90th minute constitutes violent conduct, in circumstances where the standard punishment that would otherwise apply is clearly insufficient.”

Inniss, on loan from Premier League side Crystal Palace, has until 6pm tomorrow to respond and was therefore allowed to play in Saturday’s 1-0 home win over Port Vale.

He helped County keep a sixth successive clean sheet in the league and Jamille Matt came off the bench to seal the win and retain second spot in the table.

Asked about the Inniss situation after the match, Flynn said: “I’m not sure about what is happening with Ryan, I’m waiting to see the referee’s report and then I’ll sit down with the club on Monday.

“But I had no doubts about playing him and I thought he was absolutely superb.”

Flynn was delighted to see Matt net his first goal of the season and he was also pleased with the contribution of fellow substitute Corey Whitely, who created the winner.

Although, the Exiles boss wanted Whitely to curb his attacking instinct after Padraig Amond missed a late penalty and the hosts were hanging on for the three points.

“I don’t get substitutions right all the time but they were good ones,” said Flynn.

“I’m over the moon for Jamille and Corey was fantastic going forward, it was just he game-management where he loses the ball and they break on us and when he shoots and the keeper parries it and they break on us again.

“When there’s two minutes to go, you need to try to get us a corner or a throw-in.

“He was enthusiastic and I’m sure he’ll learn from that.

“But the positive was the impact he had going forward for us.

“He’s a very good footballer and I cannot believe he hasn’t played in the league earlier.

“There are parts of his game that we need to iron out, but if we get that right then we’ve got some player on our hands. He’ll get there.”

Asked if Amond would remain the designated penalty taker after his effort was saved, Flynn said: “I don’t know, we’ll have a chat.

“He’s got the confidence and the bottle to go up and take it and I’m not going to have a go at him for missing a penalty.

“He didn’t mean to miss. If he’d tried to dink it down the middle or something stupid like that then that’s where my head would go.

“But there’s no problem, we’ve got away with it and got the three points.”
