NEWPORT County AFC boss Michael Flynn and full-back Ryan Haynes are in the running for the League Two awards for August.

The Exiles' unbeaten start to the campaign means that Flynn is up for the manager of the month award against Crewe's David Artell, Grimsby's Michael Jolley and Exeter's Matt Taylor.

South Wales Argus:

County racked up 12 points in the first month of the campaign and kept five sheets in six fixtures, responding superbly under manager Flynn to their Wembley play-off anguish.

The Exiles continued the unbeaten run last Saturday when they started September with a 1-0 win against Port Vale at Rodney Parade to climb to second in the table.

Haynes has been to the fore since signing from Shrewsbury in the summer.

The left-back has helped with the rock-solid start at the back while he has also ventured forward to great effect, scoring the clincher in the 2-0 win against Forest Green.

Haynes, 23, is up against Swindon forward Eoin Doyle, who scored five goals in four games for Swindon afer moving from Bradford, five-goal Grimsby striker James Hanson and Forest Green Rovers' Joseph Mills, who has scored three goals since moving from centre-back to wing-back.

The player of the month winners will be announced on Friday with former Wolves striker Don Goodman of Sky Sports on the judging panel, while ex-Barnsley boss Danny Wilson joins him for the manger award.
