IN-FORM striker Jamille Matt has called on Newport County to put their weekend frustrations behind them and start another unbeaten run.

Matt scored his third goal in as many games at Leyton Orient on Saturday, but it proved to be in vain as the Exiles suffered a first League Two defeat since Boxing Day.

County host a rejuvenated Macclesfield Town side on Tuesday night (kick-off 7.45pm), three days after the Moss Rose outfit came from behind to beat play-off chasing Forest Green Rovers.

“It’s the next game and it’s our next focus, so we’ll definitely be looking to bounce back,” said Matt.

“That’s the beauty sometimes, when you have got a game so close to the last one because the defeat will be fresh in our minds and we’ll be looking to put that right.

“The season is a long way from being over so we can build momentum again.

“We’ve shown before we can go on a run, so let’s hope we can put this defeat behind us and go on another run.”

County’s poor performance in north-east London was even more surprising given their excellent display against leaders Swindon Town the previous Saturday.

“Any talk that we’d arrived again is outside the dressing room,” added Matt.

“Momentum is massive and of course it’s good to keep getting results and being unbeaten, but any team in League Two can win a game of football.

“We know there is always work to do and there are boys in there chomping at the bit to get in the team, and you’re only as good as your last game.

“The boys will be disappointed with some of their performances, so we’ve got to fight again for places on Tuesday.”

Matt has taken his goal tally for the season to six over the last three matches, scoring against Scunthorpe United, Swindon and Orient.

Reflecting on his injury-time header at the weekend, he said: “It’s a bit bittersweet.

"It’s always nice to get a goal, but I’d rather it be a winner or one to get a point.

“The team comes first and I’m a big believer in that, so I’m massively deflated because I’d rather have stuck my first chance away and gone 1-0 up than get a consolation goal.”

Saturday saw a return to action for Matt’s strike partner Padraig Amond after a spell out through injury.

“Podge is a proven goal scorer at this level, and a proven goal scorer in general, so it’s always good to get one of your better players back,” said Matt.

Meanwhile, there will be some 'Unsponsored Derby' silverware on offer at Rodney Parade when County entertain Macclesfield.

Paddy Power sponsor County and Macclesfield but the betting firm's name doesn't appear on their shirts as part of the Save Our Shirt campaign.

Teaming up with several local companies, Paddy Power have made sure that most of the perimeter boards at Rodney Parade will bear no brand logos.
