MANAGER Michael Flynn believes Jordan Green’s second loan spell at Newport County AFC will prove more successful than his first.

The lightning quick winger scored two goals in 16 appearances for the Exiles under Warren Feeney and Graham Westley back in 2016.

He has since flourished at Yeovil Town and helped Barnsley to win promotion to the Championship last season.

And the 24-year-old impressed Flynn in his first start since returning on loan as County beat Macclesfield Town 1-0 on Tuesday.

“I thought Jordan Green was excellent in the first half,” said the boss.

“He tired on about the hour mark and I tried to suck every bit of energy I could out of him.

“But he was always a threat, even when he was tired. He was a real attacking threat and he gave us a little bit extra.

“He’s matured [since 2016],” added Flynn. “That was four years ago, it was his first loan.

“He’s played in League One [last season] and in the Championship this season, so he’s going in the right direction in his career.

“I worked hard to get him because I knew what he could do and it’s paying off at the moment.

“He was just tired at the end. He hadn’t played for a long time.”

South Wales Argus:

Green excelled on the right flank against Macclesfield, while Robbie Willmott was selected on the left ahead of George Nurse.

“Robbie’s discipline was the reason why I put him there,” explained Flynn. “His discipline was first class.

“He looked a little bit rusty at the start of the game, if I’m totally honest.

“But his positional sense, his covering and his talking to his teammates were [excellent]. He did a good one for the team out there.

“I spoke to George about Saturday [at Leyton Orient],” he added. “He came on and he looked a little bit off his usual standards.

“He had a good opportunity to probably displace Ryan [Haynes].

“I’m open and honest with them, but I thought Haynesy was excellent [against Macclesfield]. He looked back to the Ryan Haynes we had in the first couple of months of the season.

“It’s nice to have options now and George will keep knocking on the door. He gives us that attacking threat and his pace helps us cover at the back.

“And he’s a good kid as well, he’s no trouble.”

Flynn’s men head to Plymouth Argyle on Saturday before hosting Leicester City under-21s in the Leasing.com Trophy next Tuesday.

“It’s going to be Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday-Tuesday for the next few weeks now,” he said. “But, as long as we keep everyone fit, it might be a good thing because we can get some momentum.”
