NEWPORT County AFC boss Michael Flynn has been nominated for the Sky Bet League Two manager of the month award for January.

County drew with Cheltenham Town and beat Scunthorpe United, Swindon Town and Macclesfield Town last month, losing just one league match – at Leyton Orient.

That was a big improvement on the two points picked up in December and none in November.

The official citation for Flynn’s nomination from Sky Bet reads: “He didn’t panic during the most barren run of his managerial career to date.

“His reward for patience as injuries healed was 10 points from five games, the comparative luxury of seven goals and a climb back towards the play-off places.”

Flynn is up against David Artell of Crewe Alexandra, who took 11 points from six January fixtures, Keith Curle of Northampton Town, who won 13 points from a possible 15, and Ryan Lowe of Plymouth Argyle, who also collected 13 points and scored 14 goals in six games.

The winner will be announced on Friday.
