NEWPORT County AFC's season may have been stopped in its tracks by coronavirus pandemic but Argus readers still get their annual chance to honour their top performer.
With 10 games left to play in their League Two campaign, voting is open for the Exiles' player of the year and six of Michael Flynn's squad are in the running for the award.
Left-back Ryan Haynes, utility man Scot Bennett, midfielders Josh Sheehan and Joss Labadie, striker Padraig Amond and goalkeeper Tom King are the candidates after strong campaigns for the club.
This week we have given the lowdown on the nominees in the running for the honour, which was won last season by Irish forward Amond. Today’s candidates is JOSS LABADIE…
The 29-year-old arrived at Rodney Parade from Dagenham and Redbridge in 2016 and became a talisman.
He has now made 102 appearances, a figure that would have been even higher were it not for his serious knee injury in 2018.
Labadie has been a mainstay of Flynn’s side and the captain sets the tone for the Exiles. He played 32 games this season and scored four goals, including the winner against Macclesfield in January.
“He is a real leader and an inspirational figure – when he is there you instantly feel better about the team,” said Argus football writer Andrew Penman. “County miss his presence when he is not on the pitch.
“Labadie didn’t score as many goals as in previous years but is still a key man in that midfield and makes them tick.”
