Marriage worry

First published in Letters

MANY believe the dust has now settled over same-sex marriages. The issue is still much alive, especially as we approach the European elections.

At present, those who believe that true marriage can only be between a man and a woman, at least have the freedom to say so. However, there are forces of darkness at work within the EU which would like to see this freedom taken away.

The EU is pushing for what is called an equal treatment directive which would give it a greater say in British discrimination law, by introducing a new harassment law.

This could strip away the safeguards our country has in place, with grave implications for freedom of speech and freedom of conscience.

So a legitimate question to be asking candidates is would you defend the freedom to stand for traditional marriage, and would you oppose any form of an equal treatment directive?

For details about the likely implications of such new legislation, visit the Coalition for Marriage website at: c4m.org.uk.

The first sentence of Magna Carta reads...

"FIRST, We have granted to God, and by this our present Charter have confirmed, for Us and our Heirs for ever, that the Church of England shall be free, and shall have all her whole Rights and Liberties inviolable."

Despite much pressure the CoE made it's decision not to extend marriage, and were overruled not just by the tory and libdem government but by the labour opposition too.

Quite why the liblabcon would seek to destroy the ancient protections under law which seek to prevent continental born or controlled Kings from enslaving the British people is not difficult to guess.

As usual, people are confusing the social construct of a marriage with the religious ceremony of a wedding.

A marriage is simply a committment between two people to be recognised as a pairing by the rest of society and to live and act jointly as a single entity.

A wedding is a religious ceremony created to celebrate and announce the joining of a couple in marriage, and for this joining to be witnessed by their deity of choice.

Just because the media are shackled from publishing any objections, not much point posting unless the idea is to re-assure yourself .... If posters come out with let's ban same-sex marriages and same-sex anything the Argus would be in like Flynn and erase the lot, so real objections are never seen. NOT a good idea in my view as it tends to drive views underground, then discrimination is MUCH harder to address. Probably that bearded lady in Eurovision has gained the UKIP another 5,000 votes. If they get rid of Eurovision and the blatant bloc voting and anti-British votes that are par for the course, we might feel included to look at Europe and see if there is any point wasting our time with them. For me, no, not worth our time, let's get out, sadly that means those who feel the same way can ONLY vote for the UKIP, the rest want in.

This should cover a few of your name calling posts, tell me after reading this post, that's if you can understand it, what would you CALL these people.

The head of an Islamic faith school says he will challenge an Ofsted report written by inspectors who asked nine-year-old students to define homosexuality.

Enraged parents at Olive Tree Primary School, Bury Park Road, threatened to take their children out of the independent school on Thursday after the Ofsted representatives admitted to questioning a group of nine and ten-year-old pupils on their understanding of homosexuality and gay marriage.

The schools watchdog has said that the session was designed to gauge tolerance at the school and its pupils, though parents have said that the incident “unduly sexualised” their children.

Islam forbids homosexuality and Olive Tree does not teach sexual education.

After being confronted during a planned meeting with parents on Thursday, inspectors agreed to leave the school and say they have information to complete a report– despite completing just two of the four days they were to spend there.

Headteacher Abdul Qadeer Baksh told Luton News that he would reject and challenge the report, given the short stay of inspectors.

He said: “I told them that they had more than a day and a half still to complete with plenty left to see at the school but they told me they had enough.

“The report will not be accurate, I asked them to come back another time but they will not.

“It will be half-baked and I will challenge it. I will not accept it.”

Mr Baksh revealed that more than 20 parents called him on Wednesday evening, while many more called during the meeting with inspectors on Thursday.

He said: “Children went home and told their parents about it, I didn’t know that this had happened until I started getting calls about it.

“Parents told the inspectors that it was discrimination and it encroached on their rights.

“They did not advise me that they would ask these questions and the parents were really outraged by this.”

“These are only primary school children and as it is a faith school it is not compulsory for us to teach sexual education.

“From my perspective as head, this happened during SATs exam week and it was in best interests that the children sat those exams without distractions.”

Farasat Latif, parent and chair of the school’s trust, said that the questions asked by inspectors “unduly sexualised” pupils.

He added: “We took statements from children and most of them said that they were asked to explain what the word gay means, also what they think of gay people.

“Two girls said they felt uncomfortable and were pressurised to answer the question.

“Another boy said he knew what it meant but did not want to talk about it, most said that it was quite persistent and they felt interrogated.

“Thankfully my girl was not in the group selected but parents have said that their children came home and asked them what being gay meant.

“These are children, we do not expose them to sexual things or anything of a violent nature.”

Mr Latif has collated the children’s accounts of the incident and will seek legal advice.

He said: “The whole school was up in arms.

“What gives them the right to come into the school and ride roughshod over a curriculum which does not teach sexual education?

“We wanted an apology for asking the questions but they would not give us one.

“Tolerance can be gauged by asking about gender, disability, races, any number of different things.”

An Ofsted spokeswoman told Luton News that “sufficient evidence was gathered to complete the inspection.”

She added: “The Independent School Standards, published by the Department for Education, set out that schools have a duty to teach pupils tolerance of different groups within society.

“As part of any school inspection, inspectors will ask pupils about the effectiveness of the school’s actions to prevent and tackle discriminatory and derogatory language – this includes homophobic and racist language.”.

So what name do you have for this school?....these are Colonisers telling Ofsted what they want, Ofsted is telling them what Government need to do by Law as Ofsted do to all other schools....

How can you expect anyone to read your posts correctly if you aren't capable of writing coherently?

Ah Welshmen, once again copy and paste, which clearly indicates your poor command of your "native" language as you are incapable of writing a single sentence which any normal user of English could possibly understand. I used to run English language evening classes for immigrants. I'm sure the students wouldn't have had any problems in welcoming you into the group. Who knows, if that had been the case, you might have now been capable of writing something worth reading. Missed your chance, eh.

True, Welshmen, communicating with an average 10-year-old is no problem at all because in most children are able to use English effectively. However. as you fail to understand the basics - subject, verb, object etc, maybe its best to stick with copy and paste. Having said that, most of the BNP homepage texts written by your little mates contain the samebasic errors, so best take care in your selection. Life isn't easy and I bet you wih that you had listened to your teachers.

British laws on LGBTQ rights do not go anywhere near far enough imho. For starters, those religious institutions that the state so generously affords the 'special privilege' of being exempted from conducting same-sex marriage ceremonies should be forced to pay a special tax.

The Equality Act should also be extended to guarantee legal protection of freedom of gender identity expression so, for instance, that bigoted religious schools cannot exclude students for not adhering to their sexist gender dress codes - such as the recent case of the five-year-old boy who was kicked out of a church after-school playgroup for wearing a dress.

There should also be legal recognition and protections for those who identify outside of the gender binary of female and male - as there is now in countries such as Australia, Germany and India.
